That's the one fella.
Brilliant author, fantastic series of novels.
The first couple of novels where Parker was seeking retribution were as good as it gets, imo.

The Parker Series, written by John Connolly. John's first novel, Every Dead Thing, introducing Charlie Parker, brilliant series.but Every Dead Thing is a phenomenal thriller and debut.

Yeah agreed mate. Something comforting about the familiar.

I've got Baldacci, Winslow, Coben, Connolly (John, thoroughly recommended), Slaughter, Child, Barclay, DeMille and Khoury in my Bookmarks tab.

Still read the Reacher books pretty much as soon as they're released, but do seem to be becoming a bit too predictable. The early novels were without doubt the best.

Re: What book are you reading now?
Have not seen the Jack Reacher films but anyone who likes them must read ´Killing Floor`by Lee Child. Only Lee Child book I have read, back in 97 and it is one of my favourite thriller books to this time.It is the first in the series of Jack.
But the book is sublime and I doubt the others can match the first. 23 years on and I still rate it and recommend it.

Coffee 1:40 Wed Sep 2 - seriously thanks for that recommendation. Monsignor Quixote. I am a massive fan of Cervantes and Quixote and this GG novel has slipped through my radar. Some of the comedy sketches like windmills etc are hallucinations Quixote has in the original. Sancho is a wicked character also.

So Monsignor Quixote and Winter in Madrid are in the amazon list. Thanks.

Darlo Debs , yes I did go online when found the original last week, still published as Ten Little Niggers, right up until 1969 which surprised me. No need for updated version its only a pocket sized novel, can read at home in a few days. The tagline is A Detective Story with no Detective....sounds like a good read and Agatha rarely creates crap.

Related only by name, but you might like Graham Greene's Monsignor Quixote. It's one of his 'Catholic' novels, although it's doesn't portray the Catholic church in a great light.

It's about a priest who unwillingly gets promoted to onsignor and heads of around Spain with the deposed Marxist mayor of his village. Their journey takes in Franco’s grave in the mighty Valle de los Caídos – the Valley of the Fallen – and discussions about the relative merits of Catholicism and Marxism. In a bid to avoid the Guardia Civil, Sancho takes them to a small hotel he had known in his student days. “This is a truly welcoming little hotel,” observes Father Quixote. “And what a large staff of charming young women.”

The good father mistakes a condom for a balloon, leading to the realization of his true location. He admonishes Sancho. “So we’re hiding in a brothel?”

He chuckles at the thought of what his bishop would say if he knew.

Their adventures continue as they tilt at imaginary windmills – usually taking the form of the Guardia Civil – and involve Monsignor Quixote hearing the confession of an undertaker while seated on the toilet.

It ends with a car crash, after which the monsignor dies leaving Pancho to ponder on love, hate and the meaning of life.

Alan. Also enjoyed the CJ Sansoms Shardlake series, read them all. Great historical mysteries.

Will buy Winter in Madrid as my next read.

Re: What book are you reading now?
Coffee, love Harris.
Fatherland being my favourite of his, then Archangel, Pompeii was so so. But the contemporary modern thriller the Ghost was good.

Currently reading Berlin Noir - Philip Kerr his first 3 Bernie Gunther novels. Pukka reading.

Also as a back burner - Enemy of the State Tommy Robinson. Only reason is I dislike the fella, yet a hooligan mate had a copy and asked me my opinions on him which I can only gather from news and online etc , so thought it would be good to read as to get to the bottom of why I don´t like him.

Still all time favourite novel is Don Quixote , hated by Spaniards as its a tough Spanish read , Cervantes being like Shakespeare. But the English edition of Don Quixote is superb considering it was first published in 1605 and the most widely printed book in the world after the Bible.

I found Agatha Christies Ten Little Niggers at the back of one of my bookshelves 1969 edition 4/- ( whatever price that is ). I am surprised anything to do with Agatha has not been demoed by BLM. The current climate is not the time to pull that out and read in public.

I have never read one Autobiography in my life but tempted to get the new Oliver Stone one for his experiences in the Vietnam War and his documentaries about Fidel Castro and Vladimir Putin, as well of one of the best war films about Vietnam, Platoon, Midnight express etc etc.
